When Your Workout Clothes Do the Work For You

When Your Workout Clothes Do the Work For You

Jul 26, 23

What do you hate most – leggings that pill and become baggy after a few washes? Workout gear that feels stifling and clammy once you work up a sweat? Or spending money on a beautiful set, only for the colors to fade and become lackluster over time? We know the feeling – and frankly, with all the barriers to entry and difficulties around working out, your clothing should be the least of your worries. For this blog, we’re pulling back the curtain on what makes Wear One’s At so unique – our performance fabrics. Keep reading to learn why our Luxe Technical Italian Fabric and Classic Core Fabric work for you and not against you.

Sun Protection

Did you know that it’s possible to get a sunburn through your clothes? Yep. So even while you’re doing your best to protect yourself from harmful UV rays, your cotton tee is only blocking 5 to 15% of UV radiation. And while that may work for a quick run to the bodega, for an hour-long workout outside under full sun, that will leave you exposed.

The secret to maximizing sun protection lies in the density of the fabric’s weave. Fabrics like nylon, denim, and polyester tend to be a denser weave. Natural fibers, like cotton, have a looser weave and provide less effective protection from UV radiation. And while polyester is a popular choice for many brands, most polyester-based fabrics rely on temporary chemical coatings that diminish after 30-40 washes. Luckily, there’s a superior alternative —UPF clothing. UPF stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor. It’s a measurement of how “much UV radiation (both UVB and UVA) a fabric allows to reach your skin. For example, a UPF 50 fabric blocks 98 percent of the sun’s rays and allows two percent (1/50th) to penetrate, thus reducing your exposure risk significantly.”

Through our proprietary weaving technique and the use of highly opaque fibers, all of our fabrics offer a long-lasting UPF 50+ factor. Unlike cotton or other loosely woven fabrics, high-performance UPF clothing ensures maximum protection, guarding your skin throughout the entire life cycle of the garment. And as an added bonus, our performance fabrics excel in moisture management, prioritizing optimal breathability and keeping you cool and dry throughout your workouts. There really is nothing worse than sitting in damp leggings after a long workout, or as we affectionately call it – swamp crotch. So we created a solution – our high-tech fabrics are designed to provide the utmost hygiene and comfort before, during, and after your session. Talk about a return on your investment.

Wash and Wear

The last thing we wanted to fix was the wear and tear commonly associated with workout gear. Months of analyzing faded, stretched-out sports bras and disintegrating leggings made it clear that there was a need for workout clothes you could truly live in. When creating our initial samples, some of our key questions were: Could it survive in the dryer? Would it shrink after the first wash? How long until these leggings started to pill? These were problems we wanted to conquer. It didn’t make sense to create items that were overly precious and would fall apart with basic wear and tear. We believe your workout gear should work a little harder than that.

Stretch to the High Heavens

So when it came time to bring Wear One’s At to life – the final feature we wanted to incorporate was four-way stretch. This is the secret ingredient that allows our garments to retain their shape and fit even after numerous washes and intense workouts. We are proud to say that you won’t find pilling or warping with our clothes. And because of the compressive nature of our clothing and fabrics, there’s a luxurious second-skin feel, allowing for unrestricted movement and flexibility during workouts without compromising shape retention. With four-way stretch, these fabrics are built to withstand the rigors of frequent washing and wearing, ensuring their longevity and durability. Whether you’re engaging in high-intensity training or yoga sessions, these fabrics adapt to your body, enhancing your performance and enabling you to push your limits.
